OSI REFERENCE MODEL
An interconnected protocol For a computer to computer communication as recommended by the International Standard Organization (ISO) is a gaining wide acceptance. It is an approach based on defining a number of distinct layers known as the ISO model for open system Interconnection. As shown in the given figure, it is a seven layer. Each layer has a specific independent function.* PHYSICAL LAYER
It is concerned with the transmission of unstructured ko bit Street over a physical link, invokes parameters such as signal voltage swing and bit duration, deals characteristics to establish, maintain and describe the physical ling e.g., in case of the Rs-232-C interface (used for interconnecting user terminals to computer).DATA LINK LAYER
Data link layer is responsible for establishing for establishing an error-free communication path between computers over the physical channel.it split packets into data frames which are transmitted sequentially by the sender and the receiver transmits the acknowledgement. It ensures error-free data delivery.
NETWORK LAYER
The network layer is responsible for establishing, maintaining and terminating the connection. It also sets up a logical path between the source and destination computers.Transport layer
Once a path is established between computers, it provides reliable transparent transfer of data between endpoints, provides end to end error recovery and flow control
SESSION LAYER
The session layer establishes, maintains and terminates a session between two end users.PRESENTATION LAYER
The presentation layer provides services for the application layer to interpret the entry, data exchange, display and control of structure data. It performs data compression to present data to the user.
Application layer
This layer is a user-oriented layer which provides services that directly support the end user of the network. the services provided by the application layer include file transfer, remote file access and database management
